Periodic Review Process

Every 10 years, Biospheres are required by UNESCO to submit a document known as a Periodic Review. This involves a review of the functioning, zoning and scale of the Biosphere as well as the involvement of the people living within the site. The Periodic Review is prepared by the organisation that manages the Biosphere and submitted to UNESCO for examination by the Man and the Biosphere Programme’s International Co-ordinating Council. In 2014, Dublin City Council submitted a Periodic Review for North Bull Island Biosphere Reserve. This document formed the basis for the formation of the Dublin Bay Biosphere Partnership and the designation of Dublin Bay Biosphere. It is now available to download on ResearchGate.
