Stories in Stone

FROM Nov 12 TO Nov 12

Ever wondered where the stones on Killiney Beach come from? How the glaciers shaped this part of Ireland? What Killiney has to do with earthquake science? Join geologist Stephen Mandal to discover the stories in the stones on Killiney Beach and learn about the formation of the Irish landscape.

Meet at the bottom of the steps leading from Killiney Beach Car Park (closest to the DART station). We will walk a short distance up and down the beach to look at the glacial sediments, gather and identify beach cobbles, and put together the geological history of the area.

Please dress for the weather including where needed; layers, rain & wind proof jacket, hat and scarf, sturdy waterproof footwear.

This Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council Heritage event is supported by Geological Survey Ireland as part of the 2022 dlr GeoHeritage programme.

Please contact the dlr Heritage Officer on 087 1183160 with any questions.
